AMPLIFY:

The idea of dance music is as old as the significance of humans on earth. Nature is described through vibrations. We are witnessing this influence daily, receivers of an invisible energy. We need to Amplify this energy, the need to go nearer to our nature orders it. It is to our will to capture fragments of this endless flow and translate it into something concrete.

Amplify is the realisation of this belief. It is a platform of communication where all genres
of dance music meet and shape into influential gems. All Amplify releases contain filtered down dance elements, be it tech, house, dub or disco. They all surely have a modern touch with a classic value, in a sense that they are made to survive time.

Our selection of artists is as wide as the selection of the dancing styles we experience in our everyday lives. We are keen on talents who are masters of their instruments and techniques as they introduce new hybrids of dance music. We are interested on purity in it’s essence.

Inspired of his pure love for the underground,of his concern for the future of electronic music,the “unseen” and his own musical alter ego,kept for so long away from daylight,he names his new baby under the name “Below” trying to achieve a proper attempt on a more underground,unseen and unpopular basis.All that,while never leaving behind the need for a sneaky look at the future,due to his firm belief,that the time present is not allways enough.

Η κεντρική ιδέα της φετινής θεματικής περιστρέφεται γύρω από τη σπουδαιότητα της δια βίου εκμάθησης, καθώς και γύρω από την εργασία και τη σημασία της ως μέσο προσωπικής εξέλιξης και όχι μόνο ως τρόπο διαβίωσης.

ΣΥΜΜΕΤΟΧΗ

Όλοι οι φωτογράφοι ή οι καλλιτέχνες που χρησιμοποιούν το φωτογραφικό μέσο, ανεξαρτήτως φύλου, ηλικίας και εθνικότητας μπορούν να συμμετέχουν στο διαγωνισμό.

ΔΗΛΩΣΕΙΣ ΣΥΜΜΕΤΟΧΗΣ

Για να δηλώσει κανείς συμμετοχή θα πρέπει να αποστείλει στο Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης:
1. την αίτηση συμμετοχής, η οποία βρίσκεται στο www.photobiennale.gr στον τομέα ΒΡΑΒΕΙΑ·
2. ένα portfolio 10-20 φωτογραφιών·
3. ένα σύντομο βιογραφικό σημείωμα·
4. μια σύντομη περιγραφή του έργου/project.

Την αίτηση καθώς και τα έργα (με τη μορφή CD-ROM ή κατά προτίμηση εκτυπωμένα) μπορεί κανείς να τα στείλει είτε ταχυδρομικά στη διεύθυνση του Μουσείου (σημειώνοντας ως παραλήπτη το BΡΑΒΕΙΟ CEDEFOP PHOTOMUSEUM 2012) είτε μέσω e-mail στο cedefopaward@photobiennale.gr (το e-mail δεν θα πρέπει να υπερβαίνει τα 10ΜΒ).

ΤΟ ΒΡΑΒΕΙΟ

Ο επιλεγμένος φωτογράφος/καλλιτέχνης (1ο βραβείο) θα λάβει ως αντίτιμο του βραβείου το ποσό των 5.000 ευρώ. Το έργο του/της θα προβληθεί σε slide show κατά την τελετή απονομής του βραβείου, ενώ το Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης θα παρουσιάσει την παραγωγή μιας έκθεσης του βραβευμένου δημιουργού στην επόμενη PhotoBiennale, όπως έχει συμβεί με τον Μario Magnabosco (2008), τη Μυρτώ Παπαδοπούλου (2010) –νικητές των δύο προηγούμενων ετών– και θα συμβεί στη διοργάνωση του 2012 με το έργο της Eileen Kennedy. Σχετική διάκριση θα απονεμηθεί στο φωτογράφο που θα έρθει δεύτερος και τρίτος αντίστοιχα στη σειρά αξιολόγησης.

ΚΡΙΤΗΡΙΑ ΒΡΑΒΕΙΟΥ

Πέρα από τη σχέση του φωτογραφικού έργου με την προαναφερόμενη θεματική, οι φωτογραφίες θα αξιολογηθούν βάση της συνοχής, της καλλιτεχνικής ποιότητας και της προσωπικής γραφής του δημιουργού.

Η ΕΠΙΤΡΟΠΗ

Μια πενταμελής επιτροπή από εξειδικευμένους στο χώρο της φωτογραφίας θα αξιολογήσει το έργο των συμμετεχόντων και θα αποφασίσει για το βραβείο. Η επιτροπή θα περιλαμβάνει εκπροσώπους των δύο διοργανωτών (το Cedefop και το Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης) και άλλων πολιτιστικών οργανισμών και φορέων της Ευρώπης που η δράση τους σχετίζεται με τη φωτογραφία.

ΠΡΟΘΕΣΜΙΕΣ

Η αποστολή του φωτογραφικού υλικού (portfolios) πρέπει να γίνει μέχρι τις 11 Απριλίου 2012.

Renowned for merging cutting edge sounds with vintage accents, Sebo K is both mobilee’s longest serving artist and its beating heart of house music.

Sebo K is a unique and influential figure within Berlin’s densely populated music community; both crowd-pleasing and credible, he is a bona fide tastemaker who distinguishes himself by exploring the connective threads between classics from Chicago and Detroit, and modern European tech house, minimal, and rolling percussive grooves.

Sebo K launched his DJ career in early-90s Berlin, as an integral member of Alec Empire’s Bass Terror, the city’s first UK-style drum & bass and breakbeat club nights. By the middle of the decade Sebo K had fallen under the spell of stateside artists like DJ Sneak, Glenn Underground and Mood II Swing, and his growing love for Chicago house and Detroit techno began to reveal itself within his club appearances throughout the city. Sebo K has been a resident DJ for internationally renowned Berlin club Watergate since 2002, and through his ‘Sebo K and Friends’ nights, his relentless international touring schedule, and with mobilee’s Back Up Vol. 1 and Watergate’s 04 mixes to his credit, a growing legion of fans both close to home and further afield has been captivated by his unique mix of the old and the new.

Despite a relatively limited discography of original productions, quality over quantity has always been the credo for Sebo K. Μουσόφιλος με κλασικές σπουδές πάνω στα κρουστά και αγάπη για το βινύλιο ο Δημήτρης Βαρλάμης αποτελεί ένα από τα νέα ονόματα της house & techno σκηνής της πόλης

Η μέρα ART IS HARD θα φιλοξενεί 60 καλλιτέχνες από κάθε χώρο τέχνης, ή καλύτερα από τον δικό τους χώρο στον οποίο συναντήθηκαν με την τέχνη. Θα μας επιτρέψουν λίγο να μπούμε στα μονοπάτια της δική τους περιπέτειας, θα μας μιλήσουν σιωπηλά για τις σκέψεις τους και τις δικές τους αξίες, θα μας δείξουν έναν κόσμο διαφορετικό, ίσως λίγο καλύτερο.

Κι εμείς θα κάνουμε ησυχία για να ακούσουμε αυτά που θα μας διηγηθούν, βλέπoντας… μέχρι τις 12 τα μεσάνυχτα γιατί μετά θα ακολουθήσει ένα πάρτυ που δεν θα ξεχάσετε ποτέ.

Όλα αυτά στην Αποθήκη 7 του ΟΛΘ, ένα χώρο που θα λατρέψετε για την αυθεντικότητα και την αρχιτεκτονική του αίγλη. Μια παλιά αποθήκη υποδοχής εμπορευμάτων, για εμάς ένας “σύγχρονος” ναός τέχνης.

NICHOLAS (IT) LIVE

Italian native Nicholas Iammatteo, at his young age of 25, has an impressive and extensive sense for deeper dance music. What’s even more impressive is the consistency of his releases and his range. He has releases on many labels including Undertones, Kolour Limited, Ourvision, House is the Cure, Small World Disco Edits, Dikso, & Kojak. Has done remixes for Andy Ash and also Mario Basonov on the super fun label Needwant. His greater accomplishment, which has gained the respect of many enthusiasts, is his vinyl only label “No More Hits”. His emphasis is on content not technology.
Diva samples, commanding soul and warm inviting synthesizers breath heavily in his tracks. His work gives the basic tools he uses room to move and play. His track construction gives life to the forgotten energy that classic underground dance music utilized. Looking into Nicholas’ inspiration isn’t as easy as explaining the sequence of events of a producer or DJ who has been a pioneer to the core that is Chicago, Detroit, and N.Y. Underground sounds. The departure into music for Nicholas occurred at the Red Zone Club in Perugia, Italy. This is where Nicholas took his lessons. He credits that club as the catalyst for him becoming aware.

His top influence of all time is the Chicago label that Chez and Trent released scores of records on, Prescription, parent label to many influential labels and distributed by the power house Cajual. More influences in the house vein include Romanthony, Moodymann (listen to Nicholas’ “Many Shade of the Blues” released on Undertones and see for yourself), Pal Joey & Kerri Chandler. Soul/funk/disco influences include the likes of Patrick Adams and Leroy Burgess, along with influences from the sounds of Motown Records.

9west production is based on vintage instruments like original drumsets and live played perc, slap basses, organs, strings, blend with electronic cords, leads, sounds and effects and atmospheric pads.
Their music can be described as deep-house and tech-house enriched with the distinctive mood of the analogue warmth.

Their music is free of crippling nostalgia and rather wins you over with consistency, tension, and dynamics and time and time again with a sensibility, one would usually expect from house music. In this vein, 9west pursues an unexacting fusion of quantum jumps and tradition – including effortless melodies or hook lines.

BORONAS aka SQUARE ROOM HEROES :: Claap (GR)

George Boronas begun his dj career during the mid 90’s in Thessaloniki, Greece. Early influences came from his parents record collection. Bands and artists like the Doors, Pet Shop Boys, Jean Michel Jarre and many many others. According to his parents, since the age of 7 George would spend hours sitting in front of a monitor-speaker and change records so that he could get a taste of as many music styles of those days possible! Some piano and guitar lessons where enough to make him realize his love for music and made him want to be a part of all that. A few years later George started to collect vinyl which ignited his passion to use these records to create a mood in a club. Soon after, at the age of 16, he got the chance to start his dj career as he started playing his first parties. At the time George was mixing break beat, jungle and intelligent drum n’ bass Style, influenced from London’s music culture and artists like Goldie, LTJ Bukem , Suburban Base and the Moving Shadow crew. He also experimented in scratching and learning hip-hop techniques from respected artists like DJ Kid Stretch (national winner of the 1998 DMC competion in Greece), to combine various technques in his dj sets.

Soon he changed his musical taste and moved into deep house, house, tech-house and techno with influences that came from USA’s 90’s house and techno scene, as well as house from the UK. More especially Detroit, Chicago and New York. Artists like Jeff Mills, DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, Terry Francis amongst many others. Then followed the French house explosion which kept clubbers buzzing and, of course, George too! His top mixing skills and unique collection of records gained him a very good reputation in the Greek underground music circuit, and also brought him regular dj appearances in parties and events in various venues within Greece as well as other countries. A short while later George had residencies in various clubs in his hometown of Thessaloniki and was also organising nights with Pale Penguin. Together they planned parties hosting guest DJs, live musicians and local heroes who supported the events with live instruments like sax, guitars, keyboards and percussion. These events gained a cult status in their country and where coverred by very popular publications, as well as radio and TV shows.

More recently, he has compiled and mixed 2 quality tech-house CDs for Freeze Magazine (Greece) and had his first studio sessions for producing dance music. Until now he has played alongside artists like Wareika, Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich, Aril Brikha and has offered some memorable nights in Thessaloniki’s club scene. Since the last few years he also holds a long running residency in his hometown under the “Saturday Night Fever “ events. While visiting Hamburg and Berlin often to dj and develop his sound working with friends who he loves more than dearly. George remains focused in djing and producing more music to make more audiences sweat on the dancefloor!

Μουσόφιλος με κλασσικές σπουδές πάνω στα κρουστά και αγάπη για το βινίλιο, ο Δημήτρης Βαρλάμης παίρνει μέρος στη φετινή διοργάνωση Art is Hard.
Resident Dj του Elvis και με συμμετοχή στο Reworks 2011, η House και η Techno σκηνή αποτελούν πεδίο δράσης του.
Φέτος στο Art Is Hard θα παρουσιάσει ένα b2b set με τον Τall F.

DIM.AD VS JAYMOD (GR)

Dim.Ad & Jaymod met up in the early 90′s at a university warehouse party somewhere in northern Greece ,where
they realised that they had common inspirations, the same passion, desire, and vision for underground music and
vinyl records.

Like true vinyl junkies they were already buying almost the same stuff and they started spinning together. After some
years of losing touch in the mid 00′s they got back together and it was funny that they would yet again find the
same new and also old and rare records in their bags as in the past. It was obvious that something really serious was
going on.

They soon started a residency at the Hard Rock cafe and they have played together from illegal parties and beach
clubs to festivals. A recent one was at Reworks in Thessaloniki.
Dim.Ad has spinned alongside key figures such asAril Brikha ,Tom Clark, Funk D Void, Frank Nova, Monoroom,Charles Webster, Agent, Rui Da Silva,Kabale und Liebe, Martinez,Woodyjust to name a few.
Some clubs he has performed in are Art House,
Block 33,Decadence, minus,Loop,Buzz ,
Airport’s Red room and Sound Bar in Germany.

Jaymod runs the already successful “The Freaks Radio show” with exclusive presentation from guests like 3 Channels,

the crowd into a journey during the night and give an experience full of movement, joy and emotions …

ROOT BOOT (GR)

Root Boot is a living project that consists of distinctive innovative events, with its very own identity and creative team.
It is a form of collaborative activity based on creative expression through contemporary art forms, presented in the urban space of Thessaloniki, utilizing the city’s unique nuances and exposing some of its barely concealed stories.
Root Boot first made its appearance in October 2010 and since then it continuously takes on new forms and redefines itself, offering a mix of parties, live performances, interactive workshops, art exhibitions and more.
With its presence and energy, Root Boot samples the sounds and sights of the city, celebrating creativity at the forefront of music, technology and culture.
It also supports and encourages initiative in others as a partner or media sponsor, seeking to bridge the gaps between like-minded individuals; artists and collectives are invited to engage with the project and put forward new and innovative ideas.
At the moment the project is in its second year, always dedicated to those who understand and share the same love for music and the arts.

PI CI (GR)

Djing and organizing parties since 1992, talented producer/dj Christos Demertzis burst into the Greek electronic scene in 2002 with his electro-pop “Decades” project and the highly acclaimed “The First” album for the eclectic Poeta Negra label. With further releases for Relax Records and Klik Records under the PiCi alias, he quickly established himself as one of the most interesting and diverse artists around, with production work spanning several musical styles ranging from deep, soulful house and classic Detroit techno to more experimental and ambient electronics.
With more international appearances on established labels such as Conversation, Kompute, Dogtown and Germany’s fine Elektrolux family plus some inspirational remix work for well-known electronic artists including Popnoname, PiCi promises much more exciting and genre-crossing music in the near future.

MARICHA (GR)

Η Maricha ξεκίνησε σαν dj πριν απο 8 περίπου χρόνια. Mε ιδιαίτερη αγάπη για τα βινύλια, κινείται μουσικά κυρίως σε disco, space, soul και house ήχους, προσπαθώντας πάντα να διευρύνει τα μουσικά ερεθίσματα. Το 2007 βρέθηκε στο Τορόντο, στο RedBull Music Academy και έκτοτε ξεκίνησε τα πάρτυ με το όνομα Higher Love.

ΕΛΕΝΑ ΑΓΓΕΛΙΔΟΥ (GR)

Δυστυχώς για όλους τους άλλους, ευτυχώς για εμάς ζει στη Θεσσαλονίκη και έτσι ένα ανήσυχο, δημιουργικό και καλλιτεχνικό πνεύμα κινείται ανάμεσά μας και δε σταματά στιγμή να μας εμπνέει!
Αξιόπιστες πηγές από το παρελθόν της αναφέρουν ότι ποτέ δε καθόταν στα αυγά της και πάντα καταπιανόταν με ετερόκλητα αντικείμενα- χαρακτηριστικό στοιχείο του χαρακτήρα της (δίδυμος γαρ).
Τη θυμούνται, λοιπόν, από πιτσιρίκι να χορεύει μπαλέτο αλλά και να παίζει ποδόσφαιρο. Να σπουδάζει διοίκηση επιχειρήσεων και management και παράλληλα να ζωγραφίζει μοναδικά και να φωτογραφίζει στιγμές, τοπία, πρόσωπα. Να ξημεροβραδιάζεται σε όλα τα στέκια της πόλης, αλλά και να μη χάνει έκθεση, παράσταση και κάθε είδους καλλιτεχνικό δρώμενο. Να έχει γυρίσει όλο μα όλο τον κόσμο, αλλά να υποστηρίζει σθεναρά ότι η Θεσσαλονίκη είναι η πιο όμορφη πόλη του πλανήτη.
Η αστείρευτα θετική της ενέργεια είναι κάτι που τη χαρακτηρίζει σε κάθε στιγμή της ζωής της. Αυτός είναι και ένας από τους βασικούς λόγους που το φανατικό της κοινό συντονίζεται καθημερινά από τις οκτώ έως τις έντεκα το πρωί στη συχνότητα του Republic 100.3! From roots in early nineties Parisian rave culture, this multi instrumentalist, composer, remix artist, DJ and sound engineer has set on a formidable trajectory since Laurent Garnier invited him to put out his debut single, ‘Playground’, in 1997.

Alongside definitive producers like St.Germain and Mr.Oizo, Alexkid spent many years as a flagship artist for Garnier’s F Communications label, playing a pivotal role in sculpting the profile of French electronic music both at home and abroad while developing his own inimitable identity.

An electronic missionary, Alexkid has taken his epic live arrangements and inventive DJ sets to the four corners of the map and everywhere in between, transferring his early infatuation with the live spectacle into moist celebrations of the moment. Connection is key, and Alexkid’s intuitive interpretations of other artist’s music extends far beyond the DJ booth. After ending five years of residency in Berlin’s Weekend club, he has finally moved to the German capital where he’s now set his base at Water-gate club.

In demand as a remix artist, he has lent remixes to everyone from Damian Lazarus to George Michael, Phonique to Crookers, Sasse and Kiki, Spencer Parker to Nina Kraviz, cultivating a collaborative understanding that is no more present than in the latest releases.

Alexkid tamed his ecstatic compositions into works of profound balance and precision. Working as much with the absence of sound, punches of silence punctuated slick productions in a body of work that complimented the dance floor with elegance.

With a collaboration with Berlin minimal troupe M.A.N.D.Y in the works, latest releases and remixes on Rekids, Cadenza, Cabin Fever and NRK, forthcoming releases planned on labels such as Jimpster’s Freerange, combined to his multiple tours and dates, Alex takes no rest… « Sleep is for the weak… »

Chaim

Born into a family of traditional musicians and the son of a father who was already spinning records in the late sixties, Chaim grew up to become a complex producer. Influenced by Moroccan music he heard at home while growing up, and the sound of Chicago House he fell in love with while working as a light jockey in his local clubs, his productions tell a story of a sensitive musician from Tel Aviv. Chaim lives a lifestyle intense with bitter sweet moments, resulting from the extreme diversities his homeland offers. His tracks often climax with massive stabs, showing Chaim’s unquestionable talent for the unexpected. He plants hooky and hypnotic melodies in the front, while scratching the soul with 80s inspired synth licks flickering from speaker to speaker, effects, and memorable vocals that are wrapped inside a wall of sound. Collaborating with his partner in crime Guy Gerber on Supplement Facts releases and as a team, they produce epic tracks with uplifting, head-twisting melodies. While often producing big sound tunes like “Genesis” appearing on Cocoon’s compilation G, Chaim is also drawn to the more minimal side of electronic music one can hear in his Traum Schallplatten release “Carolin”. These days he splits his time between studio work in the country side of Israel -working on his live show and album – and playing gigs in and outside of Israel. Enjoying a wide range of support from the likes of Sven Vath, Laurent Garnier, Tiga, Digweed, Claude Von Stroke and Sasha to name but a few, Chaim is without doubt in the front with today’s innovative up and coming young producers. As of 2008, Chaim is an exclusive BPitch Control artist, where he will release his debut album.
